| 内容記述 | A series of municipal amalgamations in Heisei era has diminished about 1,400 local governments. A municipal amalgamation is likely to have negative impacts on concerned municipalities and their residents. They sometimes feel so far isolated from the central districts of the new city. The electorate and election districts of new city become much larger than what they were before amalgamation. Residents feel less represented. The performance of public administration is apt to decline. Under that circumstance, the idea and practice of new collaboration between residents and government has risen. The idea says that residents, local associations, and NPOs should cooperate with public sector to overcome the difficulties facing municipalities and their residents. Although it may suppress the traditional idea of the governance by the people, it may also have the potentiality to make self-government restored. |
